New members join Associated Student Government

Lynette Haberman loves Rogue Community College. This is what attracted her to not only attend classes but to get involved as well.

“I really wanted to get more involved in the school,” said Haberman, who is serving her first term in the Associated Student Government at Riverside campus as vice president. “I wanted to be a part of bringing it together as a community. I wanted to meet new people and also help out my school. I really love RCC. We are really fortunate we have it here.”

Haberman is one of two new members who have filled recent vacancies in Riverside’s ASG.

Two other positions are currently available at the Riverside campus:  publicity and media and activities and club administrator. Any interested applicants can pick up an application packet in the ASG office, located in the G building.

ASG at Riverside has lost four members this school year. Several members declined to comment on the turnover.

Steve Prayor is also new to ASG this term and is serving as the senator.

“I like being a liaison between faculty and students,” Prayor said, “I enjoy handling suggestions and any issues that come up. I like being a voice to the little guy.”

Ellen Husel has been involved in ASG for three years now and is currently serving as the intramural coordinator.

“I think that sometimes people get involved and don’t realize it’s a big-time commitment,” Husel said, “We are students first and ASG officers second. It’s too bad it can’t be equal but we need to be students in order to be in student government. I don’t know if that is the reason, I’m just saying it’s a big time commitment.”

According to Husel ASG organizes and pays for events that will benefit the students and help them get to know each other and have fun.

ASG has a bowling night planned for March 10th at Roxy Ann Lanes. It includes free bowling, shoes, and pizza for students and immediate family.

If you are interested in joining ASG, want to start or join a club, or need to speak to someone about an issue you are concerned about, please see a member of ASG in the G building, room 128.
